California Pre-School Instructional Network (CPIN)

What is the California Pre-school Instructional Network?

During the 2003-04 school year, the California Department of Education’s Child
Development Division, in partnership with the California County Superintendents
Educational Services Association, initiated the California Preschool Instructional
Network (CPIN). Eleven regional networks were established. LACOE serves Region 11, which is Los Angeles County.

The goals of the network are to:

Establish and maintain a regional network of administrators and leaders of early care and education/school readiness programs.
Develop and/or support regional communication and collaboration systems among various stakeholders in early care and education/school readiness.
Promote smooth transitions from preschool to kindergarten for all children, including English Language Learners and those with special needs.

CPIN Region 11 works to ensure that all children in the county have access to high quality early care and education. CPIN Region 11 accomplishes this by providing consistent, coordinated, quality professional development to a local network of preschool administrators, teacher leaders, community stakeholders as well as instructors and professors at educational institutions.

Key activities include the following:

Coordinating with existing infrastructures and outreach efforts to key stakeholders and early care and education providers to establish and maintain a network representative and responsive to the needs of Los Angeles County.
Providing high quality professional development opportunities consistent with current research and the cultural and linguistic needs of children.
Identifying and sharing research-based practices to support school readiness for all children, including those with special needs and English Language Learners.
Navigating and providing web-based resources for early care and education providers.
