RSDSS Program Overview
Federal education legislation, No Child Left Behind (NCLB, 2001), requires all states to provide a statewide system of sustained support for districts and schools receiving Title I funding. In California, this support structure is organized through the state's configuration of eleven regions by the Regional System of District and School Support (RSDSS). Each region, under the leadership of county superintendents, provides regional coordination and collaboration of services through the RSDSS office for regional Title I low-performing schools.
Region 11 falls within Los Angeles County which encompasses 4,340 square miles and houses a population of 10,226,506 residents. The Los Angeles County Office of Education serves 93 Public School Districts and a total of 1,894 schools as of 2005. The student enrollment in the county is 1,734,124 out of California's 6,322,167 students. Within the county, 60% of our students receive Free/Reduced meals, and 32% are English Learners. The challenges are many.
The Region 11 Director and Coordinators work collaboratively to develop, support and implement the Region 11 work plan.
